About

Ryan and Dave

Dave Empey

Dave has developed five major leaguers, including pitchers Ryan Dempster, who fired bullets for 16 MLB seasons, was an all-star twice, and won a World Series ring, James Paxton of the Red Sox, and Cubs closer Rowan Wick.
All told, he’s coached 21 pros, 11 pitchers and 10 hitters, plus over 100 college athletes.
Dave’s background is as eclectic as red wine. He’s coached basketball, football and soccer, and written six screenplays and three novels.
As a young sportswriter with the Vancouver Sun he interviewed everyone from legendary heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano to home run king Roger Maris, hockey hard rock Tiger Williams and figure skating superstar Karen Magnussen, from Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Lemon to Olympic great Jesse Owens and daredevil Evel Knievel, from Prime Minister Joe Clark to CFL running back Jim “Dirty 30” Young, lacrosse icon Jack Bionda, and skiing ace Nancy Greene Raine, the top Canadian female athlete of the 20th century.
Dave sat next to iconic hydroplane driver Billy Schumacher as they blistered through three laps at 140 mph in Kelowna. “That ride was a lot of fun,” he says.
Dave Empey has covered almost every sport on earth, including baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, horse racing, boxing, lacrosse, rugby, track and field, swimming, tennis, skiing, curling, figure skating, field hockey, and hang gliding.
He also managed and produced the rock band Paul Anthony and The Invasion.
